Dear Elizabeth,
Did I say shy???? This mare has not just come out of her shell, she burst out!!
She makes me laugh everyday at how curious she is. I swear if she could talk
she would say "are those my brushes", "here, I'll hold that
hoof pick in my mouth until you need it", "are those my splint boots,
I love that funny velcro noise".....on and on! She also now gladly meets
new people and has formed a strong bond with her pasture mate Dixie.
It makes me so happy to see her embrace her new life.
Tactical Blast and her pasture mate Dixie.
We have spent this first month mostly getting to know each other.
I have started the Parelli games, which are great as she needs
work on her ground manners, as expected. We started lunging last
week and she's now a pro! She was a little confused at first, but
figured it out in 2 lessons. I'm going to add the side reins this
week. As I am sure you can tell, I am in no hurry to ride her and
want to do everything slowly and cheerfully! My plan for the next couple of
weeks is to add the side reins, teach her to stand at the mounting
block and of course continue the natural horsemanship lessons.
What fun, I look forward to seeing her and our "lessons" every day!
She is slowly gaining much needed weight. I have very gradually
increased her grain over the first few weeks. Her diet consists
of crimped oats, a supplement called "just add oats" to make it complete, rice bran meal, Wysong
oil, and free choice hay which I rotate for variety. Also, she has had chiropractic
work and acupuncture with b-12 injections. She needed work on both ankles, knees,
a shoulder and both hips. Quite a mess but I'm working hard to get her feeling
her best. She is also in the middle of a 14 day herbal detox that my naturopath
has had good results with. Hopefully will help her body get rid of all the "junk" they
give them at the track.
Lastly, I would like to thank you, like so many others in their
success stories, for the work you do and making it possible
for me to find this wonderful horse! She has amazed me from
day one with her beauty, intelligence and willingness to trust.
I will write again soon and hopefully will have pictures of
our first ride!
With Thanks
Staci and Tactical Blast(aka Willow!)
Elizabeth's Note: Staci
is doing everything right! She is taking her time and getting the
mare used to her new life. She is giving her supplements to help
her get feeling normal and doing the chiropractic adjustments that
will speed the process. The Natural
Horsemanship work will allow
Staci and Tactical Blast aka "Willow" to
bond and become a team. Well done Staci. We look forward to lots
of Success Stories from this pair.

Our Prospect Horse - Tactical Blast has
made it home to Florida!
Hi Elizabeth!
My beautiful girl is home! Wanted to let you know that Tactical
Blast arrived in Florida on Saturday, a day early. I was unfortunately
at work all day(she wasn't supposed to come until Sunday),
but luckily I have great friends that helped settle her in
until I could get there. She seems to be settling in well and
has had some time turned out in a small paddock. There are
only 2 other mares at our farm and we are going to introduce
them soon. Once acquainted, she will go out with them on night
turn-out. I like that schedule as they are out about 15-16
hours and keeps them out of the hot Florida sun!
She seems very quiet/laid back and a little shy but definitely
curious! In fact, we got to see just how quiet she is when
the shipper came in a truck to big to get back to the farm(she
was supposed to transfer to a 3-4 horse in Ocala). They decided
to unload her about 1/2 mile away and Andre(my trainer) walked
her the rest of the way! Just a Parelli halter, no chain!
He said she was interested in everything but walked like
a lady the whole way! What a good girl! |

So far she likes being groomed, LOVES her ears being scratched,
and has decided that carrots are a really good thing!(She's still
not sure about apples though!). I will keep in touch and let you
know of our progress.
I so look forward to working with her she is everything I hoped
for! Thank you for all of your help, I'm so glad I made that phone
call! And if this ends up on the website, I'd like to say to anyone "on
the fence" , do not hesitate to pick up the phone! These
are beautiful, amazing horses so deserving of a second chance and,
you, Elizabeth, made it very easy and put my mind at ease right
away about buying a horse sight unseen. Your knowledge, experience,
great connections(Lauren and Dr. Lorito were awesome!) made the
entire process smooth and easy. Thanks again and I will write again
soon.
