K O River Crossing introduces himself to Imatexan

Imatexan arrived on Saturday night to Bits & Bytes Farm and Sunday was a busy day for her. First she had the chance to be turned out and meet some of the bay boyz of Bits & Bytes Farm. We have our own version of ‘Bay Watch’ here at the farm. After living in the shedrow at the track, the sunshine and mud felt wonderful to her.imatexan_20110130_127

Before she could be turned out with a buddy it was necessary to get her racing plates off. Race horse shoes are aluminum with a raised toe that can cut like knife if it connects with flesh. imatexan_20110130_155Our farrier, Chase New, is an important part of our team to help Thoroughbreds transition off-the-track. Chase stopped by Sunday morning and removed Imatexan’s rear shoes and checked out her feet. He said they look good!

Next it was a little hand grazing and then it was bath time! Finally all the poultice was washed off her legs and it was time to take our traditional ‘Red Ribbon’ SOLD! photos. We did this in the front driveway as big sister Audible looked on.

Finally it was time to ride! Read all about Training Imatexan under our Training Thoroughbreds menu at the top of the page. We hope to have the time to post stories of how her training progresses at Bits & Bytes Farm.
