My Sparky BoyMy Sparky Boy was one of our "25 Special Horses for Sale" on the Prospect Horses for Sale page. He came down with the first load on the 15 horse van we hired. Melanie O'Donnell purchased My Sparky Boy (see his Prospect page) when Eddy's Departure was put on hold for another buyer. Melanie O'Donnell had spoken to us about buying two older horses: Eddy's Departure and Thistle. She also bought Violet Maewon (My Sparky Boy's dam) for her daughter Kate. When another buyer put Eddy's Departure on hold, Melanie agreed to purchase My Sparky Boy instead. Later, Eddy's Departure's buyer changed her mind and Eddy became available for Melanie to purchase. My Sparky Boy was a younger horse than Melanie wanted and she decided he should be trained and placed in a home that would take advantage of his youth and talent. That is how he has come to be at Bits & Bytes Farm for training and resale. My Sparky Boy loves people! We began his training on January 22, 2006. Plan A: We took My Sparky Boy to the arena to lunge. All he wanted to do was stick close to his buddy Lise Matte. He would not go out on the lunge line no matter what she tried. He just kept putting his head to her chest, asking to be hugged. So we changed to Plan B. Plan B: We let My Sparky Boy follow Lise around the arena with the lunge line attached to the halter. He followed her like a dog. Elizabeth suggested to Lise to take off the halter and lunge line and let him run around so we could see his movement. My Sparky Boy did not want to run away from his new best friend, Lise. Plan C: We decided to see how closely he would stick to Lise. Elizabeth asked Lise to trot on and My Sparky Boy followed. Lise turned. "Sparky" turned. Lise stopped. "Sparky" stopped. Elizabeth suggested that Lise jog through the trot poles on the ground. My Sparky Boy followed. Elizabeth suggested Lise jump a small brick wall fence. Lise did and so did My Sparky Boy. This went on for about a half an hour - or until Lise was out of breath from both laughing and running with My Sparky Boy at her heels. My Sparky Boy has been trained for racing but his owner became sick before being able to race him. He is six years old, sweet like a puppy dog and will follow you any where you go - including over fences and through trot poles. Stay tuned for more training notes on My Sparky Boy. He will be boarding and training at Bits & Bytes Farm until he is sold. He looks to be an easy and fun project. Current Training
