Thoroughbred Prospect Horses for Sale from Bits & Bytes Farm

Our horses > prospect horses for sale

ARCHIVED PAGE FROM 2010. For current horses visit our website Thoroughbred Horses For Sale.

Bits & Bytes Farm is always keeping an eye out for good prospects at the race track. We currently have several prospect horses listed. When we have prospect horses, they will be still racing or at the trainer's farm. They are not available at our farm for viewing and we do not own them. They are usually still at the race track. Sometimes we purchase a prospect horse ourselves and train them for resale. When we offer prospects, you must remember that they are totally green and in racing condition and usually at bargain prices.

New gray Thoroughbred horse for sale.
"BBB" has been sold. We have more for sale on our Prospect Horsesat the Track page.

Buying a prospect horse direct from the track through Bits & Bytes Farm can save you a significant amount of frustration and money. Be aware that we have not ridden these horses and have not been involved in their training. We have seen them trotted out and raced. We make no claims as to the suitability of these horses for any discipline. It usually takes a few months away from the track for the horse's true personality and talents to make themselves known. We visit the race tracks and our favorite trainers to find quality horses for resale. We save you the time and trouble of locating a horse and learning how to buy horses off the race track. No one can promise the future soundness of any of these horses but we will help you assess the soundness of the horse before he leaves the track. All buyers are encouraged to do a vet check as extensively as necessary to feel comfortable purchasing a horse sight unseen.

Check out the new Newz section of our Web site! We have pages for new Prospect Horses, ResaleThoroughbreds and Thoroughbred Horses For Sale at Bits & Bytes Farm. There are several ways to purchase Thoroughbred Horses For Sale.

Before calling or e-mailing please, read about "How to Buy a Prospect Horse" from Bits & Bytes Farm. Also read the Frequently Asked Questions page and this page as well. These horses are not at Bits & Bytes Farm and we do not own them. We act as brokers to help you purchase a horse at a low cost. They are at race tracks and farms all over the country. If you want a little more detail about the process, please read our page "Buying a Horse Sight Unseen".

We DO NOT give prices by e-mail and we cannot do business with children. Seriously interested buyers looking for help will call.

We are here to answer your pricing questions if you call. Don't be shy or afraid to call. We are here to help you, and the horses, not to fast talk you into a purchase. Call so we can help you find the horse that is the best match for what YOU want to do. We do not want to push you into a sale. We are here to make the process of getting a Thoroughbred off-the-track easier. We are here to answer your questions about Thoroughbreds. Our mission is to promote Thoroughbreds as sport horses - not to make a living doing it.

When we list that the trainer needs a stall ASAP - that horse may be gone the same day we list it or soon there after. Please call IMMEDIATELY if you are interested in a horse that is "AT RISK ".

Many horses are sold the day they reach the Web site or sometimes even before. Previous buyers, buyers who vetted a horse that did not pass and people who CALL get first priority when buying a Prospect Horse. We often have photos of horses not yet on the site and if you call, we will e-mail them to you.

This is the time of year where we have lots of horses at the lowest prices of the year. NOW is the time to buy! Thank you for the opportunity to match you with a horse that can do what you want to do.

Still not sure? Read our Success Stories on this site and also on our newest site: www.OTTBSuccessStories.com.

Buying a horse directly off the track is a gamble. You are buying the horse sight unseen.

If you do not feel comfortable with this process, please review our Horses For Sale at our farm. These are horses that you can ride before buying.

A vet check will let you know if the Prospect Horse is sound but you still do not know if he has the mind or talent for what you want to do. If you have the ability, and are willing to put in the time, one of these horses might be right for you. We put you in touch with a vet so that you can have the horse vetted to your specifications - complete with x-rays if you desire - and we will do the paperwork to get the horse off-the-track. We will also help to arrange the shipping the horse and to your farm or ours. The vetting and shipping costs are in addition to the price of the horse. If the horse ships to Georgia, sales tax must be charged.

Once the horse is away from the track his price goes up. We will not sell horses directly from the trainer to inexperienced riders or to children.

Still not comfortable with the process? Read a few of our Prospect Horse Success Stories to learn more.

Hurry our Prospect Horses go FAST! CALL if you are a serious buyer - do not wait. The horse you fall in love with may already be waiting on a vet check.

Limited budget? Don't forget to check our BARGAIN BARN! Most BARGAIN BARN horses are around $1000 and may be FREE to a good home!

Elizabeth's Note: When you see a horse you like - move FAST! The trainers need the stalls and if we do not find a good home for their horses away from the track, the horses may get sold to a trainer who races at a lower level. The horses running "at the bottom" are usually run until they are no longer sound, then if they are lucky, they will be donated to a rescue group, placed on CANTER or, if they are not so lucky - sent off to auction which now means being trucked for many days to Canada or Mexico. This is NOT MARKETING HYPE! We are not in this business to make money. It actually costs us money to help these horses but we feel they are worth it. Please CALL if you can help-- it could me life or death for one of these horses while you are waffling on what to do. See the before and after photos below of S. R. King of Queens who is a grandson of Triple Crown winner Secretariat.

Please go to the CANTER Web site if you can help save this horse.

This is the same horse in June 2008 when he was listed as a Prospect Horse For Sale. We almost had a home for him when the owner sold him to low end racing. We do not know what condition he is in now. If you see a horse you like CALL. It could mean life or death or worse . . . running in pain at the bottom. YOU CAN make a difference. Donate to CANTER or any of the rescue groups on our links page. You may not be able to buy a horse now but you can make a difference in the lives of many horses with your donations.
