Thoroughbred Prospect Horses for Sale from Bits & Bytes Farm

Our horses > prospect horses for sale

Bits & Bytes Farm is always keeping an eye out for good prospects at the race track. We currently have several prospect horses listed. When we have prospect horses, they will be still racing or at the trainer's farm. They are not available at our farm for viewing. They are usually still at the race track. We may purchase a prospect horse in the future and train them for resale. When we offer prospects, you must remember that they are totally green and in racing condition and usually at bargain prices.

Buying a prospect horse direct from the track through Bits & Bytes Farm can save you a significant amount of frustration and money. Be aware that we have not ridden these horses and have not been involved in their training. We have seen them trotted out and raced. We make no claims as to the suitability of these horses for any discipline. It usually takes a few months away from the track for the horse's true personality and talents to make themselves known. We visit the race tracks and our favorite trainers to find quality horses for resale. We save you the time and trouble of locating a horse and learning how to buy horses off the race track.

All new horses will be under the new Newz section of the Web site with lots more photo galleries! Some of the horses are still on this page. They will all move over to the new Thoroughbred Horses For Sale section soon. This page will have photos of the Prospect Horses and their new owners. - April 15, 20009

We have a whole new NEWZ section of the Web site with newest Prospect Horses For Sale.

Before calling or e-mailing please, read about "How to Buy a Prospect Horse" from Bits & Bytes Farm. Also read the Frequently Asked Questions page and this page as well. These horses are not at Bits & Bytes Farm. They are at race tracks and farms all over the country.

We DO NOT give prices by e-mail and we do not do business with children. We are here to answer your pricing questions if you call.

When we list that the trainer needs a stall ASAP - that horse may be gone the same day we list it or soon there after. Please call IMMEDIATELY if you are interested in a horse that is "AT RISK ".

Many horses are sold the day they reach the Web site or sometimes even before. Previous buyers, buyers who vetted a horse that did not pass and people who CALL get first priority when buying a Prospect Horse. We often have photos of horses not yet on the site and if you call, we will e-mail them to you.

Call so we can help you find the horse that is the best match for what YOU want to do. We do not want to push you into a sale. We are here to make the process of getting a Thoroughbred off-the-track easier. We are here to answer your questions about OTTBs. Our mission is to promote OTTBs as sport horses.

This is the time of year where we have lots of horses at the lowest prices of the year. NOW is the time to buy! Thank you for the opportunity to match you with a horse that can do what you want to do.

Still not sure? Read our Success Stories on this site and also on our newest site: www.OTTBSuccessStories.com.

Buying a horse directly off the track is a gamble. You are buying the horse sight unseen.

If you do not feel comfortable with this process, please review our Horses For Sale at our farm. These are horses that you can ride before buying.

A vet check will let you know if the Prospect Horse is sound but you still do not know if he has the mind or talent for what you want to do. If you have the ability, and are willing to put in the time, one of these horses might be right for you. We put you in touch with a vet so that you can have the horse vetted to your specifications - complete with x-rays if you desire - and we will do the paperwork to get the horse off-the-track. We will also help to arrange the shipping the horse and to your farm, or ours. The vetting and shipping costs are in addition to the price of the horse.

Once the horse is away from the track his price goes up. We will not sell horses directly from the trainer to inexperienced riders or to children.

Still not comfortable with the process? Read a few of our Prospect Horse Success Stories to learn more.

"Play" is a Thoroughbred Horse for sale.

"Play" - AVAILABLE NOW and PRICED to GO!

"Play" is a 2003, 16+ hand, very wide and solid, bay gelding. We have been waiting almost a year for this well put together horse. He was a late May foal so he is a young six year-old. He has been in training with one of our favorite trainers so we know he has been well cared for. He is now ready for a new career. "Play" does have pinfire marks on his shins due to shin splints early in his training. These are not marks from firing tendons. He is suitable for a non jumping or light jumping career. Click here to see more photos on our sister Web site: www.ottbs-online.com. Please CALL if you are interested but please read the info above FIRST! Check out the new Newz with photo galleries of our Prospect Horses for sale. This page will be changing to the new look soon.

Thoroughbred horse for sale - "Ray Rules". Five year old chestnut gelding.

"Ray Rules" - GONE. Sold to low end racing#@! Next stop slaughterhouse. Sometimes we cannot get to them fast enough. Thank you everyone who tried. September 23, 2008

"Ray" is a 2003, 15.2 hand, chesnut gelding. He is very well mannered on the ground and on the race track. He was a big puppy dog to take pictures of. He is clean legged and has no vices. He is up to date on all his shots. He is very kind and a pretty mover. Will make a hunter for sure. Loves to have his head scratched and loves to be brushed. See NEW photos on our sister Web site: www.OTTBs-online.com. GONE. Sold to low end racing#@!

Elizabeth's Note: When you see a horse you like - move FAST! The trainers need the stalls and if we do not find a good home for their horses away from the track, the horses may get sold to a trainer who races at a lower level. The horses running "at the bottom" are usually run until they are no longer sound, then if they are lucky, they will be donated to a rescue group, placed on CANTER or, if they are not so lucky - sent off to auction which now means being trucked for many days to Canada or Mexico. Please do not waste our time if you are not a serious buyer or if you are not comfortable buying a horse sight-unseen -- it could me life or death for one of these horses while you are waffling on what to do. See the photos below of S. R. King of Queens who is a grandson of Triple Crown winner Secretariat.

Please go to the CANTER Web site if you can help save this horse.

This is the same horse in June 2008 when he was listed as a Prospect Horse For Sale. We almost had a home for him when the owner sold him to low end racing. We do not know what condition he is in now. If you see a horse you like CALL. It could mean life or death or worse . . . running in pain at the bottom. YOU CAN make a difference. Donate to CANTER or any of the rescue groups on our links page. You may not be able to buy a horse now but you can make a difference in the lives of many horses with your donations.

Want to know what happened after your favorite Prospect Horse was SOLD? Go to our OTTB Success Stories pages and our NEW and IMPROVED Success Stories Web site: www.OTTBSuccessStories.com

Don't forget to check out our Bargain Barn page. We often have FREE horses!

Call Elizabeth Wood to discuss getting a prospect horse. If you would rather not buy directly off-the -rack, watch our horses for sale page for horses we have trained. They are at our farm in Georgia and can be ridden. We know their personalities and talents. We will only sell a horse if we feel it is a "perfect match".
