training> training notes from elizabeth > june 11, 2005This is the page where Elizabeth and Barry will share training tips and give updates on the horses currently in training at the farm. Each weekend the boarders and the "Friends of Bits & Bytes Farm" do a group training lesson either at the farm or on the road.
"Bay Day" Cross-country schoolingThere is nothing that we like better than to take our horses off-the-farm to new places. Our favorite kind of trip is to go cross-country schooling. Memorial Day weekend we loaded up nine bay horses from Bits & Bytes Farm and headed over to a friend's farm to teach our newest horses how to jump a solid cross-country fence.
Gertjan brought our latest cross-country star - Irish. Irish had just completed his first combined training event the weekend before at Big Bear with trainer, Elisa Wallace. Elisa and Irish finished first in dressage and second over all. Before the event, Irish had not had a lot of cross-country jumping experience, so Gertjan offered to school Irish for his owner, Dr. Rachel Black.
Elizabeth brought her new favorite - former steeplechaser Heather's Best. He showed great form over these, more solid but smaller, fences than he was used to at the track.
