Can You Help?

This is the time of year when Thoroughbred race horses are most at risk. The rescue groups do their best to find "at risk" horses and rescue them. Still, too many Thoroughbreds need to find homes. Even horses that are sound are "at risk" of going to an auction because the trainer does not have the resources to take care of the horse over the winter. We will be putting up lots of photos in the next few weeks. This is the best time to buy!

Can't afford to buy but would like to help? Please donate generously to your favorite Thoroughbred rescue group. We have many of their Web sites listed on our Links page.

We can't save them all but we CAN make a difference in the life of ONE horse. Won't you help feed a rescue?

Viva Vicky, Most Always a Lady and Dora

Two more of our 25 Special Horses (Viva Vicky and Most Always a Lady) have found homes in Georgia along with our Prospect Horse For Sale -" Dora", real name Dorlee.

The three mares arrived at our farm around 7:30 PM on Tuesday evening March 21st. They calmly walked down our aisle between 22 geldings! The boys had their heads out looking at these beautiful girls. All three mares acted like ladies and walked out to the quarantine stalls and back pastures.

Viva Vicky and Most Always a Lady were used to being outside in Ohio, so they shared a pasture for the evening. Dorlee aka "Dora" made herself comfortable in a quarantine stall as she was used to being stalled. Not one of the mares were high strung or the least bit upset by their long trip from Ohio and Kentucky. Elizabeth's midnight check took longer than expected, as they wanted to snuggle with her. They told Elizabeth how grateful they were to be in the warm South and away from the snow storm of that morning. Elizabeth was glad to listen and gave them some snuggles in return.

Wednesday March 22nd was the big day for the girls to meet their new moms. Most Always a Lady's mom was the first to arrive to pick up her girl. They met in the pasture and Most Always a Lady started training Susan Llewallyn, DVM, on how she would like her back scratched. The first meeting was a success and Most Always a Lady agreed to get on the trailer and go home with her new mom Susan.

Next, to head home was Viva Vicky. She was picked up by equine transporters, Larry and Sherry Shogren. Viva Vicky posed with Larry for her ribbon photo but had to wait until she arrived in LaGrange, Georgia to meet her new mom - Glenna Prieto. A phone call from Glenna later in the day reassured us Viva Vicky had arrived safely. Glenna has promised photos soon, and she tells us she is very happy with her new mare. Viva Vicky will soon partner up with Glenna's other mare, but for the first night they will have to just gossip over the fence. They seem to get along fine.

The last mare to head for her new home, was Dorlee. She was listed as "Dora" on our Prospect Horses for Sale page when she was spotted by Mandy Pilgrim. Mandy has lots of experience with Thoroughbreds and has worked at Adena Springs South in Ocala, Florida. Mandy also worked at Foxboro Farm in Thompson, GA and knows former Bits & Bytes Farm horses Got Um Smoke Um and Ikon.

Even More Updates on Our 25 Special Horses

We have had great success placing our 25 Special Horses. They have all turned out to be very sweet and kind and easy to train. Do you remember the most special horse of our 25 - Skinny? He is doing fantastic. Read his Success Story and see how he is filling out and maturing. Updated March 22nd. Flame gets his first set of shoes!

"Pretty" has been trained and is ready for resale.

Halliea is an experience horsewoman and has given "Pretty" the training she needs to start her new career as a sport horse. Check our their Success Stories page by clicking here. She is now For Sale. Grey horses for sale usually go fast. Don't miss out on her for a second time.

Going Going Gone!

We have placed lots of horses in the past few weeks and we still have several sales pending. Please give us a call to plan your visit before your favorite horse is sold. Grayboo has been SOLD!

Here is his first update from March 22, 2006:

Grayboo has settled in today. He’s catching on to the routine at our barn and knows when the hay and feed carts are coming! He’s been drinking and eating well today. Amanda spent the whole day at the barn. She rode Grayboo around the property and did a little flat work in our indoor arena and some in the outdoor arena. He was a little curious about the indoor and Amanda didn’t have as many moments of connection with him. It could be a different bit also. I’m sure they’ll get that all figured out and form a great partnership. He was great walking around the property – curious but not spooky. Everyone that came by the barn today commented on how beautiful he is.

The farrier was also here today, so Grayboo got new shoes. Of course he was great for the farrier.

Take care,
Karen (Amanda's mom)

Call or come by for a visit - but please call first!

Please call us to discuss which horse might be the best match for you based on riding skill, experience and equine personality. We do not send out videos because it is important to match the personality of the horse with the personality of the rider. We are matchmakers, not horse brokers. We have horses in a wide price range. Prospect horses will not be sold to beginners or children without a full time trainer.

Not all horses are available for sale when they first come to the farm. We like to work with them for a while to teach them the basics of being a safe sport horse and to make sure they are healthy. You are welcome to visit and to get on a waiting list to be the first to ride them when we feel they are ready to be ridden by our visitors. Call us to discuss prices or to schedule an appointment. We are sorry but we cannot accommodate you if you just drop in unannounced. We'd love to have you come meet all of our horses--we know that it will be worth your time. Just bring peppermints!
