Our Horses > success stories > IkonIkon - Almost three years of Success Stories!
December 22, 2006Dear Liz and Barry, Thanks so much for letting us have a mini vacation at your beautiful farm. I know Smokey and Ikon were sad to leave!!! It was so much fun showing off our boys and getting to ride some of your TBs.
I remember when my dad first called me up and told me he had bought two ex-race horses right off the track. I thought he was going through a mid-life crisis and was going to kill himself!!
My view has totally changed. In the three years I have had Ikon (I sort of "borrowed" him from dad) he has turned out to be such a wonderful boy. After all his time at the track he is literally "bomb proof." Our farrier came out last week and shod ike and Smokey. It was a really windy day and in the middle of ikon's shoeing one of the barn doors slammed shut. It was so loud that even I jumped but Ike didn't even move a muscle. The farrier then turned to me and said "Yep...he sure is broke". It was a great moment. I will never get another horse that hasn't raced because it makes them so non-spooky!!
I hope you and all your animals have a wonderful christmas. Amy, Smokey, Ikon, and I look forward to seeing you next month when we head back up to college. Beth December 1, 2006
Dear Liz, Greetings from Cookeville! Amy said you would love to hear from Ikon and me so here we go!! Ike and I have had another successful semester at college. Just this past week we both had an intense jump clinic from Michael Tokaruk and my BAY-by did wonderful. He was the youngest horse there but also the most talented!! Thoroughbreds are just so great!! His jumping is coming along so well and so is his dressage. We plan to kick-butt in a few dressage shows in the next year, he really has such potential. Though we haven't had time this semester for many shows I hope to go to a few events this Christmas break. Amy and Smokey are chaperoning Ikon and I at our first event in Poplar Place this winter. I have a few candid shots of Ikon and me attached to this letter. Sincerely, August 2005Amy and Smokey have done so well...some of the jumps they go over are really big. The Monroe, NC cross country jumps for open Novice where not only big but so wide....like jumping a picnic table. We schooled at Pine Top to see how the training level jumps would be at the up coming events....he did all that they tried. They really are amazing (T'breds and the girls that jump them!). Beth has Ikon so well trained....he will jump anything and is now off his front end while cantering....he is still so eager to please and always wants to go go go! They all plan to go to several H-J shows and Amy to events in Franklina as well as River Glen in Knoxville and perhaps Pine Top this Fall. Jeff September 2005Dear Liz,
