Voted is doing well, and we absolutely adore him. He is such a
puppy dog!
He is very easy to ride and patient with everything. We bought
him for
October 30, 2006Elizabeth, We are really grateful to Sissy for Voted. Please assure her he is doing well. We are doing well. We do have a few pictures of Palmer on Voted that are actually getting developed now. We have been really preoccupied with getting the farm going and our new little one. He is six weeks old now. Lucas Ralph Hamilton was 8 lbs 11 oz when born. He is up to 11 lbs now, and finally, I am ready to start riding again. We have our barn underway, and the new pasture cleared and seeded. We will be fencing soon and making sure the barn gets in place asap. I wish it was already done with the weather already starting to get cold, but I think it will be another 4 – 6 weeks. After the fencing on the new pasture is done, we should finally be free to work less on the farm and ride more. Palmer has not ridden Voted much, but he is still doing ok even with infrequent rides. We haven’t asked much out of him yet except trail riding. He does get nervous when ridden out alone. If he gets far from the pasture he calls out to the others constantly but no other bad behavior. It is just a baby thing he will work through. He is incredibly easy-going for his age. I was brushing him while letting him graze on a lead this weekend. We were near a straw pile covered with a tarp that was flapping everywhere, but he never spooked. Also, I had left a brush I wanted in our garage. I walked him right inside the garage with me and back out. He didn’t even look at anything much. My 13 year old paint would have snorted and hesitated every step of the way. I’ll send photos soon. Take care, July 10, 2006Elizabeth, Palmer started riding Voted around the farm this weekend. He did really well out on the trails by himself for a four year old. They walked, trotted and cantered out on the trails and did fine. Palmer said he did refuse to cross a three foot wide dry creek bed (ditch) at one point. Palmer dismounted and led him across. The next time they came through there, Palmer asked him to jump it and he did. What a good boy! Palmer took him over to the next farm, and Voted got a little nervous over there. They have a bull in a pasture abutting the trails. Voted started calling out for his buddies like he realized he was a little too far from home. Palmer didn't push him too much to keep going further; he was so impressed with how well he had done already! I took some pictures. If any turn out well I will get them to you soon. Thanks, July 7, 2006Elizabeth, He has been an easy-going, sweet natured boy. I was leading him around one side of the house back to the paddock the other day when the air conditioner cut on. He spooked, but didn’t have much room to move between me on one side and a small tree on the other. He started to move over towards me, but then really tried to respect my space and pretty much stayed right where he was. Not many 4 year old horses would have been so careful. He also did well with the fireworks show that the neighborhood bordering our farm set off every night this week. It was no big deal to him. I think he is going to work out great for us. Take care, June 21, 2006Elizabeth, Voted is doing well. He is really sweet. Palmer really hasn’t had time to ride him yet as he has been traveling on business or working a lot including most of last weekend. He wanted to ride him Sunday before he left but time got away from him. Voted was really lonely at first with our other two geldings still being boarded. He was pining away to join Lighthouse Lady, our other rescue. We staged it where they could get acquainted over the fence for close to a week and then finally turned them out together. It has gone really well. She will make an ugly face and chase him a few feet if he comes near her pile of hay in the paddock. Otherwise, everyone is getting along well and he is much happier. We even put the kids’ two minis that Lighthouse Lady is so fond of back in with them. I was worried she would be possessive of them, but it all works. One of the two little mini mares is actually becoming a bit of a buddy for Voted. He is really easy-going with them. I will have to send you pictures of the odd couple! We will have everyone split up a little better when our clearing/fencing project is done, and our two other boys come home. I really hope that is by October so I’ll have everyone close by to ride. I think he is much prettier than his pictures. They made him look like he had a disproportionately small hindquarters for his body. He doesn’t look that way at all in person. He must have just been swung away from the camera slightly. He is really cute.
Voted is doing well. We have him in a paddock next to our other horse. Other than staring at her wistfully, he seems pretty happy. We really like his personality so far. He has been pretty mellow and affectionate. Palmer can t wait to ride him. We will keep you posted over the next week. Thanks again for all your help.
