Our training notes often show schooling at the farm but may also include cross country schoolings and trail rides away from the farm. Go back through our notes to see how we train our off-the-track Thoroughbreds and prepare them for new careers as sport horses.

Choosing the Right Horse Trailer

Make an investment in a safe, well built trailer to protect your Thoroughbred while travelling.

My favorite horse trailer is the 4 Star. It is well made and it will hold its value. It can be customized to your personal needs as well.

I prefer a gooseneck over a bumper pull for safety.

I prefer a straight load over slant load for the horse's comfort. A standard slant load trailer is designed for horses under 16 hands. Larger horses are cramped and can get sore if travelling long distances while squished into a space that is too small for them.

three box stalls for long trips.

Avoid at all costs, small trailers with mangers in front. These are way too small for a Thoroughbred and it will feel like a starting gate to them so they may not load. If you are picking up a horse at the track, make sure you have a large enough trailer that is safe for the horse to travel comfortably.

Protect your investment by buying an aluminum trailer instead of a steel trailer. All-steel trailers rust and no one wants to buy an old rusty trailer. There are good steel and aluminum trailers that are the best of both aluminum and steel.

Always properly service your trailer, axels and tires. Get a check up before taking a long trip - better safe than sorry.
