Flame Boyant aka "Skinny" continues to progress with his training, thanks to the jumping help of Paula Gunnels., "Flame" loves to jump and we are learning that the higher the jumps, the more fun he thinks it is. Come try "Flame". He will make a great show hunter but he is laid back and quiet enough to be a fox hunter.

October 2007 - Flame is For Sale - He is now at Bits & Bytes Farm where he may be ridden.

We want a special home for this special boy. He is very talented and would make the perfect Pony Club horse. Read down through this page to read his history. Flame has already been to horse shows and won ribbons. He is very quiet and easy to ride, if you carry a crop! He is more on the lazy side and he is more of a push ride. The exception is if you are jumping. He perks up his ears and picks up his knees and clears the fences with confidence. He has a great personality and he is priced right - for the right match. He is by Torcher out of Violet Maewon. He is unregistered and never raced. We know his entire history and remain in touch with his breeder and former owners. Come to Bits & Bytes Farm and take Flame Boyant for a test ride and you will fall in love with this boy's personality and attitude! Come meet our boy!

Sara and Flame. December 2007

Hi, I'm Lisa Sievers, the new owner of Flame. We bought him right before Christmas for my daughter, Sarah, who is 14. She is really enjoying him, riding him about 4 times a week, and her trainer, Freda, rides him once a week. He has a very sweet personality and seems to love attention.

Sarah and Flame aka "Skinny" no more!

I will try to send photos soon, we are hoping to get him clipped in the next couple of weeks and he will look more presentable.

I thoroughly enjoy keeping up with the horses on your website! I love reading about each and everyone of them. I have such admiration for what you are doing, and how you do it.

We would love to come down there sometime and see the farm. I will be in touch,

Sincerely,
Lisa

Elizabeth's Notes: We are thrilled when the second or third owner of one of our horses contacts us! We want to follow the horse through his career and offer background information and training tips if needed to his new owners. It is important to keep up your horse's Success Stories should it ever be necessary to resell the horse. Please contact us, if you have purchased a horse that originally came off-the-track with the help of Bits & Bytes Farm.

Hi Elizabeth,

Just thought I would update you on Flame. I have sold him to a 13 yr old. girl who just loves him. Her name is Sara Seivers of Rutherfordton NC. She and her
mother are friends of mine so I will still be able to keep up with him on a regular basis. She rides with the same barn as my niece. She just loves that he is so laid back and quiet. She is a very good rider so I expect big things from the two of them. He has a very good home where he will be very well cared for. She plans on showing him this coming spring. I will keep you updated on his success.

Hope you have a great Christmas!

Hi Elizabeth,

Thank you for keeping Flame's page updated, your hard work with these horses does not go unnoticed. You had mentioned before that when I got ready to sell Flame you could post it on his page. I'm ready to offer him for sale, of course it will be to the right home only. Here is some info on him if you need it:

  1. 16 hands
  2. Cantering 2 ft. courses with lead changes, will be able to do the 3 ft. divisions
  3. Basic dressage flat work
  4. Super quiet and laid back
  5. Will jump anything
  6. Will make super children's/adult am. horse
  7. Quiet enough for intermediate child
  8. Has been to 2 horse shows, in the ribbons at both
  9. Will continue to horse show until sold.

or call 1- 828-287-7115

I will continue to keep you updated on Flame's progress, he is going to another horse show next weekend.

Thank you for everything!
Jessica

July 17, 2006

Hi Elizabeth,

Can you believe Flame is all grown up and going to his first rated real horse show. Doesn't he look great! He was so good a trainer wanted to try him at the horse show for her beginner kid. The kid road him and he was great for her, trotting little cross-rails just after he had gone in and shown in the pre-green. He even got some good ribbons.

He was third in the under-saddle and 5th in the over fence classes. He even got his lead changes, we don't drill them at home because they are so natural, we only ask at the horse show and he always does them.

The girl riding him is the trainer that comes to my barn to do my boarders lessons, she is 6 ft. tall, Flame is now a solid 15.3. I think with more muscle and another year of growing he will hit 16. hands.

"Skinny" is growing fast.

I am now going to offer him for sale, I will be selective as to who he goes to as he is such a special horse to me. He is going to another horse show this weekend, I will let you know how it goes.

Thank you for everything!

Jessica

May 22, 2006

Hi Elizabeth,

I finally got some pictures taken of Flame! The girl riding him in the picture is the 13 year old I told you about, she rides him in her weekly lessons.

"Skinny" aka Flame is being ridden by a 13 year old girl.

He is coming along so great, I just love him. He went last Friday to a horse show just to school the jumps, it was his second time away from home and his first time in a show atmosphere. He was very quiet, no spooks and jumped everything he was pointed at. He even got a compliment on how cute he was. I think he is proving to be a hunter type, with the quiet mind and great jump, and good movement.

"Skinny" has a great mide and loves to jump.

He is going this weekend to his first actual horse show where he will be shown. It is a local schooling show. He is continuing to have solid lead changes. He is schooling 2 foot small courses at home and we'll let him decide what he wants to jump at the horse show, whether it's the 2 foot or cross rails.

He is so quiet and laid back I'm able to really feed him some quality hay and grain. He still has muscle he needs to develop, I think another 4 months he will be even more stunning than he is now. However I am biased, I cannot find anything bad to say about him.

"Skinny" aka Flame show off his new fuller figure.

He is going to make some child or adult amateur a great partner one day. For right now though, I'm having so much fun bringing him along. He is so kind, he acts as if he knows he was saved from a harsh life at best. I'll send pics of the horse show next week!

Hope all is going well,
Jessica

April 27, 2006

Hi Elizabeth,

Flame is doing great. He looks sooo good. I would have never imagined that he would look so good so soon. He is also riding great. He is going solidly over x-rails and started over some low gymnastics. He shows great potential as a hunter so as of right now that's what we're going to aim towards. He gave me a lead change in both directions the first time I asked, he had no clue what he was doing but it just came naturally. I will send pictures next week.

Hope all is well!

Jessica

March 22, 2006

Flame got his first pair of shoes on Monday, he stood very good for the farrier. He is riding great, coming right along with his flat work starting to figure out leg yields and such. He is also starting to carry himself in a frame, he has the softest mouth. He has continued to gain weight, I'm hoping when the grass starts growing he'll actually get fat. He is starting to shed and is going to have a beautiful shiny coat.

I am feeding him lots of oil to help with that. I am planning on taking him to a little local schooling show in April and doing the little x-rails. I'll send more pictures soon!

March 12, 2006

Hi Elizabeth, here are some new pictures of Flame. These were taken today, 3-12-06. The last two days he has trotted over a little cross rail with no hesitation. I'm also letting a friend of mine who is 13 yrs. old ride him also. She is a very talented young rider who happens to be in between horses right now. She loves him and gets along with him great.

I think he will end up being a great adult-amature/children's hunter. I expect him to be cantering courses by the end of the summer. I also plan on taking him to some local schooling shows later in the spring. I will keep you updated and also send you some more pictures of him standing so you can judge his weight better.

Thanks,
Jessica

March 6, 2006

Flame is doing great! He is now a gelding.  It never phased him, he didn't even get stiff. He is walk-trot-cantering quietly and just started to trot poles today. He has gained about 150 lbs. and looks great. He still needs to gain a little more but he is definitely presentable now. He has continued to stay quiet and easy to ride even with the weight gain. He has never offered to buck and has only spooked one time, we have plenty on the farm to spook from such as longhorn cattle who will usually spook any horse and he has never looked twice. I will send you pictures soon, he is shedding out so I may wait until he is slick for the picture.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks,
Jessica

"Skinny" now known as Flame Boyant - December 30, 2005

Hi Elizabeth,

Here is a picture taken of Flame on 12-29-05. I think he looks much better although he still has a ways to go. For the first time he went out with two other geldings today and got along with them great, he even trotted around a little bit. He is a gorgeous mover, I think he may be the best mover I've ever had. I just love him and so does everyone else around the barn.

I'll send you more pictures as his weight increases in a couple of weeks. Seeing how you don't see him every day you will be a good judge of how he is progressing with his weight. Please e-mail me back to let me know if you think he's gained any weight.

Happy New Year!

Jessica Hughes

From Jessica on December 13, 2005

We made it home last night around 7:00 pm. Everyone seemed to be fine, Laura and I had to push Flame off of the trailer, he didn't want to walk into the barn but with little push from behind he walked right in. He ate supper last night, had plenty of poops this morning. He ate well this morning, and is eating his hay very well. I have him in a private turnout in the day time and he seems to be enjoying seeing all the horses. I will keep you updated with pictures as Flame progresses. His new full name is: Flame Boyant!

Talk to you soon!
Jessica

UPDATE: December 12, 2005 - Our Christmas Miracle Horse

"Skinny" was too run down to travel to his final destination after last week's "big rig" ride down from Ohio. So, he stayed and rested for a week at Bits & Bytes Farm. "Skinny" was picked up on December 12, 2005 by his new mom Jessica Hughes of White Pine Farm in Rutherfordton, NC.

"Skinny" is now named FLAME BOYANT for the candle and flame on his forehead. It is appropriate as his sire is Torcher! He has been the spark that encouraged everyone open their hearts to these needy horses. Watch for FLAME BOYANT's Success Stories page in the near future. Jessica has promised to keep us up to date on his weight gain. Thank you Jessica for standing by this beautiful boy in his time of need!

"Skinny" has a new name Flame Boyant and a new mom Jessica and a new little friend Lane. December 12, 2005

"Skinny" was listed on our site as one of our 25 Special Horses. Here was his write up back in November 2005.

5 yr old colt. 15'3. By Torcher out of Violet Maewon. Very skinny. He is cribbing a lot. There is not a lot for these horses to eat in their pasture. It is smaller then the rest of the fields. He could be a beautiful horse. Look at him. He is correct and has a kind face. Was very happy to let me pet him. Mark him as URGENT. We need to find a special home for him quick! He is starting to get covered in rain rot as well. His dam Violet Maewon is also for sale. Thank you for all the offers to help "Skinny"!!!
