March 13, 2007

Rip had lots of fun at her party.

We drank cosmos with our best friends and Rip got to open presents from her favorite aunts.

Rip's favorite color is pink, even our glasses had pink and green bows tied around the stems. The green was for Chip, a gelding that has had an amazing comeback from foundering. He also happens to be Rip's across the aisle stall buddy, she thinks he's hot.

She sends her best!

Elizabeth's Note: It is always a thrill when one of our Prospect Horses reaches a milestone like a one year anniversary. We know then, that it was a "Perfect Match".

To Amy and Roman Ripples I offer the official Bits & Bytes Farm toast,
"To old friends and new friends and the horses that have brought us together".

Cosmos and Carrots celebration! Cosmos and Carrots celebration! Cosmos and Carrots celebration!

March 5 - Cosmos and Carrots - A one year celebration!

Roman Ripples has been here a year,
the people will celebrate with cosmos and beer,
There will be treats for the horses too,
carrots, apples, orange tic tacs and hopefully you.
There is, of course,
another reason to cheer,
Chip is getting all better
and a long long time, will be with us here.
All in all,
we have been supremely blessed,
with health, horses, and friends that are best!
So come join the toast
to another great year,
With Savannah as host,
we hope she won't drink all the beer!

Rip is doing AMAZING, we had this huge turning point, she's fat and sassy right now, gorgeous and trying so hard. It's like she's given me her little horse soul. (Well, at least 90% of the time.) I can't wait to get some pics of us riding. Thank you for my baby!

Hello Elizabeth,
Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that Roman Ripples is doing great. We have such a good time together and she has the best personality. She's settled in and seems very comfortable and adjusted to her new life. I see her every day but it's been so hot I don't only ride her a couple of times a week.

My quarter horse never seems to remember what we worked on the day before but with Ripples I can not ride her for 4 or 5 days and we pick up exactly where we left off. Amazing horse! She's not always perfect but she is the perfect horse for me. Ryan did such a good job preparing her for a new career and she has transitioned wonderfully. We have a few little bumps now and then but even those are easily handled. She just has such a good attitude and mind. I can't believe I bought her from a web site picture and she's turned out to be the best darn horse I've ever had. I'll send a pic soon.

Thanks so much,
Amye

Roman Ripples and her mom attended a dressage clinic with Pam Schwartz.

We took Rome to a dressage clinic today with Pam Schwartz. She did very well. She gives me 110% in whatever I ask her to do. She really really tries and is so smart, she picks up things very quickly.

Miss Roman Ripples has gone so far beyond my expectations, I just don't know what I ever did without her, she is predictable and dependable. When I first got her, she had a short choppy little trot but after a lot of work in the round pen and after this clinic today, she is rounding out and developing some nice extension. It's patchy right now but we've only been working at this for only around 3 months and I can barely keep up with her progress. I wouldn't believe the difference if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. She understands what I ask, and does her best to meet me willingly.

One thing she does do though, is when she feels like she is done, she is done and will stand and will refuse to move a toe. No amount of squeezing, kissing, or kicking will budge her. I know I am asking her to work longer than she is used to, and finally she doesn't break into a sweat after 15 minutes. When she does her pig impression, refusing to move, I just tap her with the crop and she turns back into my horse.

Sending more pics, don't feel obligated to update her page, I know I send a lot, and I know from looking at your web site you are very busy finding people wonderful horses.

I love mine!

Roman Ripples is the first OTTB seahorse!
Roman Ripples is the first OTTB seahorse!

Hi Elizabeth,

We took Rome on another 5 hour trail ride yesterday and she was wonderful! She was so quiet, we stayed in the back this time and rode with a slack rein, I never had to ask her to slow down. She was calm and happy the entire ride.

When we got out to the pointe on the lake I just stood back with her, some of the other horses were going in the water but hey, pick your battles,- she was already being perfect, but my friend Laura said I should take off her saddle and my shoes. She said if I went in first she might follow me.

Roman Ripples trusted Amye enough to follow her into the lake.

Well, I took off my shoes and stuck my toes in, and Rome looked at me like I was a little nuts but then stuck her little toes in, too. After a couple of sips, she decided we would go in as long as I was in front so the lake monsters could eat me first. She loved it! She went in up to where only her lovely Roman Ripple's neck was showing and we just had the best time. Ever since I was a little girl, I've wanted a horse I could swim with, well Rome has just been my dream come true.

Roman Ripples is a dream come true for Amye.

I've attached pictures of our lake adventure but they're not the best. My friend didn't find the zoom on my camera. We're going to a dressage clinic this weekend, I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all you do!

Hi Elizabeth,

Rome went to her first show today. We actually trailered in and schooled last night, she was great last night. This morning, however, I think she knew it was Derby Day and she was ready to go! We schooled for about an hour and a half to calm her down (I think she could trot to California and not get tired), but as soon as she stepped into the ring for her first class, she was her old self. We got a 4th and two 5th places in the three classes we showed in which I thought was great for her first show in pretty full classes.

She's developing really nice movement and we work nicely together. She's funny, both times we have been back from some new challenge, she comes back to the barn with her head held high, you can actually see how proud of herself she is and I couldn't be happier with her progress.

I love her so much! Thanks,

Amye

Hi Elizabeth,

Sunday we took Roman Ripples on her first long trail ride (4 hours riding). She wasn't excited about loading at first, but got on after some convicing.

She did excellent. We conquered Bussey Pointe, a really nice ride through the woods out to a pointe on the lake. A lot of horses get very agitated when you make it to the pointe because it is on a huge hill with water around three sides. The water moves pretty quick and usually the first time a horse sees the moving water they get upset.

But not my Rome, she gave a good snort at it and then munched her peppermints and stayed calm. When we got back to the trailers, she even ventured out to take a drink on the calmer water. I wish I had pictures to show, but we were both too tired to take any. It was funny though, she was just as proud as I was and when we got back to the barn, she wouldn't let any horse get in her space. She usually walks away when another horse gets near, but it was like she grew a foot on that ride.

After a nice bath and massage she then proceeded to wallow in the mud. My princess.

Thanks,
Amye Morris

Hey Elizabeth,

I'm sending you a picture of Rome and her new sister Savannah. They are best friends. I just brought Savannah home Sunday. Rome is happy that she finally has a nice pasture mate. Both are very docile horses and just wanted a friend. The other horse Rome was with could just look at her funny and Rome's fur would start falling off.

Rome is excellent. Unfortunately I can't show her in May, it ends up being the same day as my graduation. I'm sad. She could go to a show tomorrow though, she is that relaxed and together. We just bump along at our little pace and take care of each other.

Yesterday we trotted over cross-rails and you would think that she has been doing it all her life.  She loves it, has her ears pricked up and is completely calm and collected over everything we go over.  Just small training stuff right now, but I'm so excited that jumping is something that she is interested in.  She is my pet.  When I go in her stall she puts her head on my belly and wants me to put my arms around her big ole horsey head.

Thank you for my baby! I love her so much,
Amye

Hey Elizabeth,
I took this picture Tuesday morning. Should be the last time Ms. Roman Ripples wears a blanket until October. She is doing great. I get my other mare, Savannah, back this weekend so I'm gonna be in great shape in a month or so with two green horses to ride every morning.

Roman Ripples was purchased as a Prospect Horse for Sale from Bits & Bytes Farm.
This picture is about as far as I can get from her with my camera, she's a sweetie.

I wish more people would give OTTBs' a try because as long as you know what they are used to and why they do some of the things they do, they are the best bet. I'm so glad I did this. I was really nervous buying a horse from a picture but she is perfect. I read that they can be really hard to keep weight on but I am already easing up on her feed because she is gaining weight kinda fast, she's an easy keeper. I hope there will always be someone around doing what you do. If I ever did buy another horse it would be an OTTB from your prospects page.

As for me, I'm set for about the next 30 years with my two girls...

Hello Elizabeth,

Just wanted to tell you thanks again for helping me get such a magnificent
creature. Tomorrow I'll try to get some more pics to send you.

But as for now, Rome and I have fallen into a nice routine that fits us both. I
go out to the barn around 8am and we do some light round pen work and then have about a 30 min. ride. We are actually still riding bareback, I think she likes
it. It also helps me 'feel' her a lot better, too. She is sweet and quiet and
perfect for me. I can't say much about her progress because when she came she
already responded quite well to leg pressure, the bit, and voice commands. I
ride her in a snaffle bit which she is great in. I was sure I'd get more
resistance from her turning to the right, but that too, after one very short
well-mannered discussion, is going well. I'm sure we'll have our moments in the
future, but right now we are so comfortable with each other, it's a dream.

Thank you so much and God bless you and yours,
Amye

Roman Ripples and Amye Morris - March 15, 2006

March 15, 2006

Hello Elizabeth,

I rode Rome for the first time today (bareback, my other tack is with Savannah, my horse in training, and Rome's hasn't come in yet). She was a very good girl. We've put her to the test this week with the farrier, the vet pulling new Coggins and so forth, bathing, cross tying, and round pen. She does everything great and has the added bonus of being extremely sweet and quiet.

Roman Ripples and Amye Morris - March 15, 2006

I never expected or dreamed that I would get a horse off the track that is this wonderful. Everyone at the barn is amazed at how well-behaved she is. This is one of the best horse decisions I've ever made.

Thank you,
Amye Morris

The most beautiful horse in the word is doing great.

Hi Elizabeth,

The most beautiful horse in the word is doing great. We were just made for each other, she is my baby and knows my car when I pull up to the barn. I couldn't be happier with her. This weekend we started some basic round pen work and she is quiet and calm to work with ready to do whatever I ask.

I can see her with me until we're both old and gray.
Thank you so much for helping me get her.

March 8, 2006

Elizabeth,
I didn't take pictures today but spent five hours with Rome (calling her Rome
instead of Ripples.). I sat in her paddock and did paperwork and then we walked the entire farm (22 acres). I walked her over the tiny jumps and cross rails and cavaletti and she is so willing and interested in doing what I ask. Most of the time she doesn't even look twice.

Amye Morris and Roman Ripples. March 2006

She loves it when I tell her what a good girl she is and gets more responsive to me every minute that I'm with her. At first she was very professional and business-like, which I understand as she has always had a very important job to do. She's been a career girl, so to speak. But the more I'm with her, the more I just fall in love with her.

She did bite a piece of one of the lesson horse's ear off but hey, he was
leering at her.
